Body of Ideas Lab (2016) – TWO DAY PROVOCATION

Body of Ideas is a program that looks at notions of the body and how it is being reflected back in society, in art and in dance.

The investigation was guided by four provocations that unpinned Chester’s travel as part of her Churchill Fellowship in 2014 and her subsequent research from 2015:

The Body as an Idea
The Body as an act of Impossibility
The Body as a system that fails
The Body as a Dilemma

Body of Ideas is curated by Critical Path Associate Artist Samantha Chester.

barrangal dyara (skin and bones) (2016)

For the 32nd Kaldor Public Art Project Wiradjuri/Kamilaroi artist Jonathan Jones presented barrangal dyara (skin and bones), a vast sculptural installation stretching across 20,000 square-metres of the Royal Botanic Garden.

The Project recalled the 19th century Garden Palace building where it originally stood in Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden, before it devastatingly burnt to the ground along with countless Aboriginal objects collected along the colonial frontier.

Temporary Title (2015)

Temporary Title, 2015 is an exhibition where visitors enter and leave at will. That situation is made with performers who are forming and deforming groups or assemblies while composing a landscape in perpetual transformation. The performer’s actions and presences oscillate between appearances which characteristics could be sculptural, animal, vegetal, mechanical …. and, sometimes they approach the public to engage in conversations. – Xavier Le Roy
